AIA History

The AIA wrestling team has had two Olympic medalists. John Peterson won a silver medal in the 1972 Olympics and a gold medal in 1976. John was the only USA wrestling gold medalist at the Montreal Olympics, finishing his stellar mat career with a perfect 67-0 dual meet record with AIA.

John continues to lead international wrestling teams to Europe for AIA, and works with college and high school wrestlers in the upper Midwest of the United States.

Gene Davis was an Olympic competitor in 1972 and won the bronze medal in 1976. Gene was the head coach of the AIA wrestling team from its formation in 1966 until 1985 when he became the director for AIA wrestling.
